Tis the season where World's Strongest Man dominates the TV schedule (well it does in my house). So me and this fella in the pic paid homage and did a bit of strongman training outside at VO2.
However, calling it "strongman" training suggests it’s a niche way of training reserved only for very large, hairy men. BUT as with any training it can be adapted to suit any body shape and gender.
The benefits are huge – weight loss, functional strength, endurance, huge amounts of fun.
And if you have plateaued in your fitness programme this is a great way to make a breakthrough whether you are a runner, footballer or gym junkie.
Another benefit is it requires a lot less technique than other forms of weight lifting so it’s easy to get started under the proper supervision.
The bragging rights are great as well – “What did you do this weekend?” “Oh I flipped a few tractor tyres………”
Our session:
• 5 x tyre flips
• 20 x sledge hammer smashes
• 5 x heavy med ball slams
• 1 x 20m tyre pull (arms only)
• 1 x 30m weighted sledge push
• 1 x 30secs rope battle
• 5 rounds
Let me know if you fancy giving it a go.
Tom
