Don't do these things, get better at sport

For the average person looking to get better at their sport

Here are some of the things you should stop doing/believing to get the results you want:

“I’ll just dust off the old gym routine” >>is your body and lifestyle in the same place? Did it even work? You may need to rethink what you are doing

“I’ll smash it 5 days a week” >>this leads to burn out and/or injuries. Be smart about your training intensities. Vary light, medium, hard days

“I don’t have time for the gym” >>Prioritise. There is a lot you can do in 10mins - sprints, HIIT, Tabbatta, 3 sets of deadlifts etc.

“I don't need to lift weights for my sport” >> whatever your sport, your game will benefit if you are stronger (I don't count snooker as a sport…)

“I’ll do a two week weight loss plan to drop loads of fat" >>The weight loss won’t be sustainable, you’ll lose muscle as well as fat & you’ll be exhausted when you play or train

“I’ll just rest it” >>Getting injured shouldn’t mean you become inactive. Work around the injury in your training and speak to a trained professional if its something more serious than a knock

“I’ll go for a run” >>Not many sports will have you running at a steady pace for 30mins so why would you train like this?

“I’ll follow this 2 hour bodybuilding routine” >> Keep it simple and sports specific

The reason you aren’t getting the results you want is likely due to the fact that:

You are guessing what you are doing is right You have no real structure You aren’t sure what to do or change if things need adapting You can’t sustain your current programme You’ve been trying for years on your own and never had help from someone who knows what they are doing

Sound familiar?

The end of the year is creeping up at a ridiculous rate, Christmas songs are probably already on the radio.

What are you going to do about your fitness goals??
